Rebound Hood River Physical Therapy Celebrating First Anniversary

For Gorge residents recovering from injury or orthopedic surgery, professional rehabilitation assistance has been offered at Rebound Hood River Physical Therapy for the past year. Located next to the Columbia Gorge Community College and available Monday through Friday, this new option for local physical therapy opened its doors in the Heights of Hood River in June 2023. You may recognize the smiling faces of physical therapists Sally Muir, Andy Roof and Tom Fliss from their many years of treating patients in the Gorge — or perhaps you have run into them on local rivers, trails or ski runs. The group specializes in orthopedic outpatient physical therapy and sports injuries. They are as avid about their collective passions of kayaking, kitesurfing, winging, mountain biking, hiking, trail running and skiing as their patients are, and they are committed to getting their clients back outside on trails, slopes, rivers, pickleball courts and golf courses.

Raised in the Columbia River Gorge, Muir became interested in becoming a physical therapist after receiving treatment as a physical therapy patient following several sports injuries and surgeries. She enjoys an active lifestyle and in her spare time, loves mountain biking, skiing, kitesurfing, fishing and spending time with her family. Prior to joining Rebound, Muir practiced in a variety of settings, including rural communities in The Dalles, Hood River, Alaska and high-paced urban clinics in Utah. She worked as the team therapist for the Major League Soccer team based out of Sandy, Utah. She is also a certified bike fitter.

Roof worked in outpatient orthopedics in The Dalles for nearly 20 years before joining the Rebound team. He is experienced in treating neck and back pain, shoulders and knees, any sports injury, running and cycling overuse injuries and all orthopedic postsurgical patients. He also has specialized training in vestibular rehabilitation for patients experiencing vertigo or dizziness. When not working, he can be found backcountry skiing the local volcanoes, pedaling singletrack and playing bass guitar in local bands.

Fliss has worked in orthopedics for the last 11 years at both the Hood River waterfront and in The Dalles, and he now brings his enthusiasm and expertise to his own neighborhood home base in the Heights. He is a whitewater kayaker (and former instructor), swing dancer and kiteboarder. In recent years, he has become passionate about anything to which he can attach a hydrofoil (kitefoiling, winging, stand-up paddleboard foiling). Like Muir and Roof, he has earned his board-certified orthopedic clinic specialist designation, which means he has put in extra work to specialize in musculoskeletal conditions. Injury patterns of Gorge athletes have led him to develop considerable experience in addressing complex shoulder injuries, spine pain and related neurological conditions, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, foot pain and orthotic needs and return-to-sport training.

“I saw the need for improved physical therapy access in the Gorge, my local community, and we wanted to bring the expertise of Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery right here,” said the practice’s COO Christina McManigal. “As a whole, Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery provides our region with specialized care to help restore strength, reclaim a full, healthy life and rebound. Our physical therapists play an integral role in that mission, and we’re proud to offer their exceptional services in Hood River.”

Rebound’s experienced team of physical therapists is available to assist and may be able to get you in for an appointment as soon as three to seven days. Rebound Hood River Physical Therapy is located at 1700 12th St., Suite C. The office can be reached at 360- 449-8700.
